Graduate Student Poster Competition

Take part in the Graduate Student Poster Competition and win cash prizes. Graduate students should register to participate in the Competition when submitting their abstracts by checking the box to have their poster judged.

The Graduate Student Poster Competition takes place during the general poster session on Monday evening. Posters may be installed beginning at 9:00 on Monday. All posters must be up by 12:00 (noon). Presenters should be in attendance at their posters between 17:30–19:00 for the judging. Posters must be removed immediately following the poster session. Posters that are not removed will be discarded.

Poster boards (with push pins and Velcro) will be provided. Each poster board is 8 feet wide by 4 feet high. The dimensions of your poster must be less than those of the poster boards.


1st place: $300 - Christopher Deutchman, University of Waterloo
2nd place: $200 - Marguerite Cinqu-Mars, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières
3rd place: $100 - Lukas Bauman, University of Waterloo

Energy Division Poster Competition

In addition to the overall Graduate Student Poster Competition, the CIC Energy Division is sponsoring additional prizes for energy-related research posters:

1st place: $300 - Adriana Andreina Rivolta, University of Alberta
2nd place: $200 - Nazmiye Tugce Eran, Polytechnique Montréal

Judging Criteria

Posters will be evaluated based on:

  • Visual Presentation
  • Presenter’s Expertise
  • Presenter's Delivery
  • Originality/Creativity
  • Handling of Questions
